The youngest son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, the super power God and Goddess in Hindu mythology is Lord Ganesh. Distinguished by his elephant trunk head, he is being celebrated as lord of good beginning, prosperity and obstacle remover. Ganesh Chaturthi is also observed by the  hindu diaspora all over the world.

The prasad or the sweet offered to Lord Ganesh during the whole festival is predominantly “MODAK” which is a dumpling made with rice powder, coconut, jaggery, dried fruits and other condiments. It is steamed or deep fried. Another dish similar to modak which is offered to Lord Ganesh is “KARANJI” or “KARJIKAI” is a half-moon shaped and deep fried. “LADOO” a chickpea flour sweet and a jaggery-cardamom-blackpepper based drink called “PANAKAM” is also produced and served during the puja.
